Fondant Roses

Two goals accomplished in one day. I wanted to learn how to make homemade fondant. I also wanted to learn how to make roses from it. First, I still haven't learned exactly how to make the fondant that I want, but I did get an excellent recipe from a friend. It's made from marshmallows and powered sugar. It's very easy to work with but I would love to learn how to make fondant with glycerin and gelatin.

That being said, because it's easy to work with I decided to make roses. I made a total of six from one fondant recipe. One I gave away without taking a picture. These five were made and then painted with food coloring. I like how they turned out, but I still have lots of room for improvement.

Boredom and Cheap Flowers

So, this weekend I was planning on learning how to make gum paste and then sculpt flowers from it. However... while at the store buying unflavored gelatin, I saw discounted flowers. And of course, my first thought is, " Those would make a really pretty cake."

So, here it is, the cake I made this weekend. :)

There are some imperfections, but I like it.
